:: Human Footprint

+ 19.11.2011 + Human Activity in Satelite Images

DETAILED SATELLITE IMAGES DOCUMENT HUMAN ACTIONS

The new satellite image book "Human Footprint" takes the reader to a trip around the world, targeting well-known scenes such as Venice or New York as well as regions seldom seen before.

While man remains invisible in the images, they focus on the results of the creative transformation of the Earth. In this way, the book considers the fascinating details of the habitat of humans and attempts to create an awareness of our responsibility for our own future.

HUMAN FOOTPRINT

For thousands of years man has spread over the Earth and increasingly transformed its surface. The extent to which humans have influenced the regions, landscapes and eco-systems through their activities is denoted by the term "Human Footprint".

Maps can show the extent of the influence of humans on the surface of the Earth, but in their abstractness they contain no information about the constructive or destructive activities or about their relation to the acts of man. In contrast and similar to views from an airplane, recent satellite images show an incredible diverse picture of the activities of humans on the surface of our planet.
