Results of the global survey of electric car drivers: 92% of electric car drivers worldwide will never switch back to a combustion engine vehicle!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Global EV Drivers Alliance (GEVA) has just announced the publication of the first global survey on the experiences of electric car users. The results show that 92% intend to buy a zero-emission electric car again for their next car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018This is a remarkably high number and the results confirm that drivers love the electric car experience and electric cars are here to stay,\u2019 said Joel Levin, Chairman of GEVA and Director of Plug In America. The weighted results show that only 1% say they would return to a petrol or diesel car, and 4% would choose a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they had to replace their car tomorrow. \u2018These results confirm that drivers of electric vehicles are very satisfied with their choice and that reports of a decline in the popularity of electric vehicles are greatly exaggerated,\u2019 says Petter Haugneland, Deputy Secretary General of the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not just about the climate<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The results show that lower running costs are the most important reason for buying an electric vehicle. \u2018This should be an eye-opener for decision-makers worldwide. While a dynamic market for electric vehicles is crucial for reducing climate emissions from road transport, to achieve this goal, electric vehicles need to become even more affordable for everyone,\u2019 says Ellen Hiep, board member of the Dutch Electric Vehicle Drivers Association. The environmental benefits of electric vehicles were cited as the second most important motivation. The charging infrastructure must be further improved. The charging infrastructure is quite good in most countries and is constantly being expanded. Nevertheless, some drivers of electric vehicles still find charging a nuisance. When asked about the disadvantages of driving an electric vehicle, the results show that the biggest disadvantages are the limited availability of fast chargers, the time-consuming nature of charging and the frequent downtime of fast charging stations. \u2018This shows that electric vehicle drivers are similar to consumers in general – they want convenience and a hassle-free experience. Even though most electric vehicle drivers charge at home most of the time, developing consumer-friendly charging solutions is crucial for the growth of the mass market for electric vehicles,\u2019 says Christian Peter, Director of EMC ElektroMobilit\u00e4tsClub of Austria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feedback from over 23,000 electric car drivers worldwide<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Electric car drivers The global survey of electric car drivers includes over 23,000 responses from 18 countries and is the first and most comprehensive global survey of electric car drivers. This is the first time in history that GEVA has utilised its global network of electric vehicle driver associations to conduct a survey. GEVA believes that the insights gained from the survey are crucial: \u2018Electric car drivers are at the centre of this ongoing electric car revolution. To be successful and increase the global acceptance of electric cars, in-depth knowledge of electric car drivers is essential,\u2019 says Silvia Rojas, Executive Director of the Costa Rican Electric Mobility Association ASOMOVE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
