No form of electricity generation has ever grown as rapidly on a global scale as solar and wind power are doing at present. Never before has there been as much green electricity worldwide, in Europe or in Germany as there is today.

As a result, CO2 emissions from electricity generation are set to fall globally in 2026 for the first time since records began. A world record of historic significance. Installing a solar system has always been worthwhile for the environment; it has also been financially worthwhile since the year 2000, thanks to government subsidies under the German EEG, the Renewable Energy Sources Act.

In 2026, Germany is once again experiencing a solar boom, a wind power boom, a boom in electric cars and a boom in heat pumps. In September 2026, around 88,000 new electric cars were registered. This meant sales rose by 95 per cent, reaching a market share of around 34 per cent last month. Consequently, registrations of combustion-engine vehicles have plummeted. Given the rising fuel prices, this is hardly surprising. It’s good for the planet and good for everyone.

Renewable energy, electric cars and heat pumps are becoming increasingly affordable, whilst fossil fuels are becoming increasingly expensive. Anyone who still buys a combustion-engine car today has only themselves to blame. They ought to know better. The German federal government, however, still refuses to see the light.

But now even some within the CDU are waking up to the reality: the Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther (CDU), has just written a letter to Chancellor Merz in which he sharply criticises the federal government’s energy policy. It is harming Germany and his own federal state, wrote the CDU politician: in substance, Günther backs two key points of criticism that have so far been raised by the renewable energy sector and by the SPD. He firmly rejects the so-called ‘redispatch reservation’, under which wind and solar power plants in areas with grid bottlenecks will no longer be fully compensated for curtailed electricity.

“The redispatch reservation sends a devastating signal to project developers, financing institutions and our local authorities,” writes Günther. “It will not reduce costs in the energy system, but will cause them to rise,” says Günther. There are “more efficient measures to better harmonise the expansion of renewable energy with grid expansion”.

Even in Texas, the Republican oil-producing state, solar and wind energy are booming, despite Trump’s opposition to renewable energy.

Renewable energy is the most cost-effective energy policy

Daniel Günther is absolutely right in his criticism. The solar energy revolution has begun. It is the first global revolution in world history. The future belongs to those who embrace it. Evolution means change, transformation and the future. The future belongs to those who are optimistic. The global solar revolution marks the dawn of a new era for humanity.

A solar energy economy is the prerequisite for a genuine peace policy free from conflicts over old energy resources. Climate policy is economic and peace policy. The central question for the future is: wars over oil or peace through the sun.
