The scheme is expected to attract up to AUD 1 billion (USD 624.1m\/EUR 640.2m) in private investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The super battery will be installed at the former Lake Munmorah coal-fired power complex in New South Wales\u2019 Central Coast region, with its construction slated to begin early in 2023. Commercial operations will be achieved by mid-2025, prior to the planned closure of Origin Energy\u2019s Eraring coal-fired power station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transmission company Transgrid has been appointed as the system\u2019s operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe battery will ensure electricity consumers in Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong have access to more energy from existing generators while new transmission connections are developed,\u201d Kean said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The New South Wales government has given the ambitious project the Critical State Significant Infrastructure status earlier. This summer, it said that the scheme will be the first one to receive <a href=\"https:\/\/renewablesnow.com\/news\/nsw-unveils-usd-860m-of-infrastructure-funding-to-speed-up-renewables-787815\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">funding<\/a> under the state\u2019s new facility for supporting energy infrastructure investments over the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
