Japan has treated the water to the point where officials\u00a0say\u00a0it is no longer harmful, and now\u00a0intend\u00a0to dilute and release it into the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The NZ SMC led a global media briefing with three experts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sciencemediacentre.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=fdc5316d8cbd7a248ee94eaeb&amp;id=a4f8f6630f&amp;e=78b715e391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Dr David Krofcheck<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;is a senior lecturer in physics at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. His research specialises in nuclear physics and natural radiation from the environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sciencemediacentre.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=fdc5316d8cbd7a248ee94eaeb&amp;id=c99ac083d0&amp;e=78b715e391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Associate Professor Tony Hooker<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;is at the&nbsp;School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences of Adelaide University in Australia. He is the Immediate Past President of the Australasian Radiation Protection Society. He provides expert advice to government, industry and the public regarding the health effects of radiation, and sits on the Pacific Island Forum\u2019s&nbsp;independent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sciencemediacentre.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=fdc5316d8cbd7a248ee94eaeb&amp;id=9ee65689a5&amp;e=78b715e391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">panel of global experts<\/a>&nbsp;on nuclear issues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sciencemediacentre.us7.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=fdc5316d8cbd7a248ee94eaeb&amp;id=453da392b5&amp;e=78b715e391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Professor&nbsp;Chau-Ron Wu<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>is a Research Fellow at the Research Center for Environmental Changes in Academia Sinica, Taiwan.
