The energy transition is coming

Climate neutrality by 2045, millions of electric cars and 80 per cent green electricity by 2030 are the goals of the German government. In 2025, the solar energy transition continued to make great strides in this country.

In the first nine months of this year, more solar power was produced than in the whole of 2024. Compared to 2020, the share of solar power has more than doubled. If we maintain this pace, Germany will achieve 100 per cent green electricity before 2030.

Wind energy is also making faster progress than in recent years. If the country continues to follow the recommendations of scientists, Germany could be climate neutral before 2045. However, we still have deficits in the heat transition and the transport transition.

But even today, heat storage facilities with a capacity of several gigawatt hours are being built to store summer surpluses for use in winter. Germany has adopted these advances from Denmark, as well as the recent boom in heat pumps. Not only is renewable electricity becoming cheaper, but so too is storage.

Technologically, Germany is following the path of electrification, which offers the most cost-effective and efficient solution.

Heat pumps and electrical solutions, which require four times less electricity than expensive hydrogen-based solutions, will also become established in this country. A prerequisite for the 100% switch to renewable energies is the widespread recognition that the energy transition is not a sacrifice, but a gain and means prosperity for all. An intelligent energy transition is far cheaper than no energy transition.

The energy transition can also be a project of social justice, predicts economist and head of the Energy, Transport and Environment Department at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), Prof. Claudia Kemfert. She has calculated that German families will pay less for heating in 2045 than in 2025, with significantly higher comfort and zero emissions. (politische ökologie – Wärmewendeoekom verlag December 2025)

Germany can prove that climate protection and social justice are compatible. The energy transition is creating a better society. It is the path to climate neutrality, greater sovereignty, greater justice, greater peace and greater prosperity. That is why the future belongs to renewables.
