Criminal US president or emancipated US president?

“Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are”, goes an old German proverb. Does this wisdom also apply to former US President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump? And who are Trump’s friends? And who are his enemies?

Let’s ask him ourselves:

  • Trump on China’s Xi: “Brilliant” –
  • Trump on Russia’s Putin: “Brilliant” –
  • Trump on North Korea’s Kim Jong un: “Very honourable”
  • And Trump in July 2018: “I think the European Union is an enemy.”

Trump’s friends are predominantly climate change deniers. They are the „Männer, die die Welt verbrennen“ (Christian Stöcker, Ullstein Verlag). This is about “the decisive battle for the future of humanity”.

These men are quite indifferent to the consequences of their actions. It is a question of the survival of all life on our planet. We need to know who we are dealing with. The few profiteers of the climate catastrophe are facing almost all of humanity and all life as losers.

When it comes to money, it is always about power. The five largest listed oil companies in the world are a huge power: ExxonMobil (USA), Shell (UK), Chevron (USA), Total (France) and BP (UK). These “Big Five” alone made a combined profit of 200 billion dollars in 2022. Profit, not turnover! A historic record – even though the consequences of the climate catastrophe had been known for decades.

The 28 world climate conferences to date have essentially only had one result: the climate is getting worse. The earth’s temperature is rising. But the “men who are burning the world” are not interested in this at all. Their motto: greed, money, power.

One of Trump’s first acts as president was to withdraw the USA from the Paris climate protection agreement. The same could now be feared again after President Biden rejoined the agreement. Another President Trump would be a disaster for the US, for Europe and for the whole world – not just environmentally, but also economically and democratically.

Trump has announced that he wants to “rule like a dictator” from day one. True to his motto “America first”, he wants to seal off his country economically and destroy free global trade through massive import tariffs.

What does this political madness have to do with Germany?

In the ZDF summer interview, AfD leader Alice Weidel spoke out in favour of Trump as US president and recommended learning from him. What a disgrace!

And the alternative?

Kamala Harris would not pull out of the Paris Agreement. As Vice President, she supported President Biden in his 370 billion dollar programme for renewable and green technologies. This is the world’s most ambitious programme for the solar energy transition. In her arguments, she was usually greener and more ecological than Biden. She is a fierce critic of the fossil fuel industry. The exact opposite of Trump.
Kamala Harris can stand for a new solar age and for the beginning of the solar world revolution

“Not only did she take on “guys like Donald Trump” as a public prosecutor and later Attorney General in California, but also the fossil fuel industry. She sued Exxon Mobil for misinformation on climate change, for example, as well as a pipeline company for oil leaks. At last year’s World Climate Summit in Dubai, she declared war on greenwashing and fossil fuel lobbying,” says “Klimareporter” (David Zander and Joachim Wille) about the emancipated Democratic candidate.

The fact that Trump is now refusing to engage in a public debate with his new rival is simply cowardly. And shows how afraid he is of the former Attorney General of California. She says of Trump: “I know sex offenders, fraudsters and swindlers like Trump”. The latest polls show that Kamala Harris has a good chance of becoming the 47th President of the USA.

Her life story, which Kamala Harris describes so vividly in her book “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey (Young Readers Edition)”, is a constant reminder of the fundamental values of freedom, tolerance and justice that are so much at risk today.
